Knowledge is power
Here at The Dental Surgery Burnham, we feel that it is our responsibility – as a dedicated and committed dental practice – to give our patients all the tools they’ll ever need to keep their teeth healthy and clean for a lifetime.
Alongside all of the various dental treatments that we offer, providing oral health education in Burnham is a massively important part of the service we provide.
This education is not limited purely to children – although we do try to give our younger patients all the education and help they need when they visit our practice – but rather is there for anyone who feels they could benefit from it, no matter what age.
You are never too old to learn something new, especially when it comes to your teeth, and the more extensive your oral education is, the better you can care for your teeth.
Who provides oral health education Burnham?
At our dental surgery, our team of practitioners and experts is divided up by dental discipline so that our patients can benefit from the broadest range of expertise possible.
The role of providing actionable oral health education Burnham is carried out, for the most part, by our in-house dental hygienists.
Education is a big part of what a dental hygienist does, as – instead of focussing their attention primarily on how a patient’s smile looks, a dental hygienist’s primary aim is to ensure that each patient’s teeth are as healthy as can be.
The dental health advice which our hygienist provides can be something as simple as proper brushing techniques or habits, but can also be more complex tips such as how to properly care for dentures or dental implants.
We believe that establishing good dental habits is key to preventing oral problems from arising, as the more our patients know about oral health maintenance, the higher the likelihood of them taking proper care of their teeth and mouth.
What are some actionable dental tips?
Our dental educators focus largely on providing patients with helpful pieces of professional advice on how to look after their teeth.
Some of the most obvious pieces of advice which they offer include tips such as which brands of toothpaste are the best for maintaining healthy enamel and gums.
Additionally, informing them of the best brands of dental floss and how to floss properly so as to avoid bacteria or plaque developing under their gums, is another area which our hygienists focus on.
Dietary habits – such as what drinks and foods to avoid is another area of education which we focus on here at The Dental Surgery Burnham, as well as tips for avoiding bad breath or advice for those recovering from gum disease.
What else does a dental hygienist do?
Alongside giving patients of all ages tips and advice on how to properly look after their oral health, our hygienist also regularly carries out extensive dental examinations of our patients’ teeth to identify any early or onset signs of gum problems, decay or abscesses.
They also perform a dental deep-cleaning procedure called a ‘scale and polish’ which can rid a patient’s teeth of extrinsic staining and leave their smiles visibly cleaner looking and far healthier.
